As your doctors, we know that breast reconstruction surgery can make women feel whole again and improve her quality of life.

Breast reconstruction can restore a woman’s self-esteem and femininity.

With advancements in breast implants give our patients receive the most natural look. The breasts will have great contour and balance. Some techniques use a patient’s own tissue to make the breasts look and feel even more natural.

In most cases, breast reconstruction surgery immediately follows the removal of the natural breast, otherwise known as a mastectomy, while the patient is still under anesthesia.

So what actually happens?

Breast reconstructive surgery is an inpatient hospital surgery that typically takes a few hours and is performed after the mastectomy.

Risks include excess bleeding, fluid collection, infection and excess scar tissue. Patients also risk having an allergic reaction to the anesthesia and medication used during and after the procedure.

There are continued risks after the implants are in place that will be discussed with you ahead of your surgery. If the implants shift or leak, for example, they may have to be removed.

What about after surgery?

Some women experience a complete loss of sensation in their breasts after surgery while others only lose partial feeling.
