Eyelid Surgery

eyelid-surgery

It’s the first thing people notice, they’re called the windows to your soul – your eyes. When they start to show signs of aging, the result is a tired, worried or anxious appearance. Eyelid surgery, reduces the affects of aging and improve the appearance of the upper eyelids and/or the lower eyelids. By firming the area surrounding the eyes, that youthful glow shines through. Eyelid surgery leaves patients with a rested, natural appearance by treating the following:

  • Excess skin that hangs from the upper eyelid
  • Excess fat deposits that cause puffiness in the upper and/or lower eyelids
  • Sagging lower eyelids
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

So what actually happens?

Our eyelid surgical procedures are performed in our state-of-the-art surgical suites under general or local anesthesia and typically takes one to three hours for both eyes. You’ll return to the comfort of your own home to recover on the same day as the surgery.

For upper eyelid surgery an incision is made in the natural crease of the upper eyelid and excess fat, muscle and skin are removed.

Lower lids loose that baggy appearance as your doctor proceeds with an incision either inside the lower eyelid to remove excess fat or below the lashes to remove excess fat, muscle and skin. Additional techniques are also available – depending on your needs.

What about after surgery?

Our doctors will review all possible complications any limitations you may have post-op and answer all of your questions ahead of surgery. There’ll be some bruising and swelling for about 4 weeks. Incision lines may take up to one year to fully refine. Patients will be able to read within two to three days but will not be able to wear contact lenses for at least two weeks after surgery. Patients are usually able to return to work within 10 days but are advised not to engage in strenuous activities for a month to allow time for healing.
