Removing Ruptured Silicone Breast Implants and EN BLOC Capsulectomy [PHOTO]

When silicone breast implants rupture, women can experience redness, swelling, pain, and tingling in their breasts, or they might not feel anything at all. Most patients will develop scar tissue and calcium deposits as the capsules around the breasts begin to harden. While there’s no scientific evidence that links the rupture of silicone implants with the development of serious disease, people who’ve experienced breast swelling and hardening with general breast discomfort, or a documented rupture on mammography and MRI should visit eSSe Plastic Surgery for diagnosis and treatment. Here, their ruptured silicone breast implants can be safely removed along with any resulting scar tissue or calcifications, this technique is known as EN BLOC capsulectomy. At eSSe Plastic Surgery, patient health and patient aesthetics are equally valued and, thus, people are always given safe solutions that make them feel and look better.

What to Expect When Your Breast Implant Ruptures

Saline implant ruptures are often characterized by an audible popping or sloshing sound and immediate deflation. With silicone implants, however, these enhancements do not generally deflate, and they’re usually silent. The silicone gel that’s been used as the implant filler will begin to slowly and quietly leak from the implant instead, and it may begin migrating through the pocket or capsule. Although this leakage will initially be intracapsular or fairly contained, it will gradually become extracapsular. Once this occurs, the silicone can migrate into the breast tissue.

How Implant Ruptures are Diagnosed

For some people, the signs and symptoms of a ruptured implant can be surprisingly mild, even after the silicone has started to migrate to other body areas. This is why people with silicone breast implants are advised to receive MRIs once every three years. eSSe Plastic Surgery can assist with these FDA-recommended MRIs or use other diagnostic tools for ensuring both early detection and treatment.

Addressing Silicone Implant Ruptures with en bloc capsulectomy and implant removal

When your silicone breast implants leak or rupture, it can be unsettling. You likely want to find a solution. Thankfully, the team at eSSe Plastic Surgery proudly offers safe and effective removal of ruptured silicone breast implants with the capsule in one piece, known as an en bloc capsulectomy. This prevents contamination of the remaining breast tissue from the leaking silicone. You can learn more information about the procedure during a consultation at our office in Fort Lauderdale.
