“Professional women, working women tend to put themselves last after kids husbands and jobs. Sometimes it’s just about doing something personal – just for themselves.

“I want to empower women to look and feel their very best. If a woman gets hung up on their imperfections whether it’s a real issue or one she feels is an issue – it doesn’t matter,” said Dr. Stokes. “If there’s anything I can do to correct that – to restore a woman’s confidence it’s done. Confidence is beauty. Women with more confidence are just more beautiful.”
You don’t need an advance degree to conjure up that statement, but being in the know doesn’t hurt and Dr. Tracey Stokes knows it, in an Ivy League way.
She received her undergraduate degree in Biology with honors from Harvard University, Boston. She went onto medical school at Cornell University Medical College in New York and did her Post-Graduate Training at Duke University Medical School, North Carolina, in the areas of general surgery, plastic, reconstructive, maxillofacial and oral surgery. More post-grad training at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute in Louisville, Kentucky for hand and microsurgery and at Paces Plastic Surgery in Atlanta, Georgia for oculoplastic surgery.
She chose plastics so she could be a doctor for the whole patient.
“I always wanted to be a surgeon. I’ve gone through all aspects of surgery,” said Dr. Tracey Stokes. “Orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, then I did a rotation in plastic surgery in medical school. I liked the depth and breath of it. You get to literally operate on the whole body from head to toe, you’re not doing the same operation again and again.”
Dr. Tracey Stokes took a special interest in breast reconstruction when it hit close to home.
“My mom had breast cancer. At 40 she had a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery a year later. That was the catalyst for reconstructive surgery being the majority of what I do now. Helping women recapture their whole self.”
It’s this deeply personal knowledge of what the loss of a breast can do to a woman’s sense of self and how restoring that piece of our bodies, which makes us so uniquely feminine, that drives her.
It gives Dr. Tracey Stokes both great personal and professional fulfillment by satisfying her patients’ needs and having them regain that confidence.
To practice what she preaches she decided to team up with like-minded Dr. Sudarsky to create eSSe – a place where women can feel completely comfortable talking to their physician about their bodies in a totally judgment-free zone.
