Rejuvenate Your Skin with Micro-Needling

Is the condition of your skin changing with the passage of time? If your skin is dull and lifeless, you have more than likely been looking for treatment options. Fortunately, a range of non-surgical techniques are available to completely rejuvenate your skin without the need for surgery. One such technique is micro-needling, and it may be perfect for you!

What is Micro-Needling?

Collagen induction therapy, commonly known as micro-needling, is a skin rejuvenation treatment involving tiny punctures that are made in the surface of the skin to trigger the self-repair process. This treatment is commonly used to treat lines, wrinkles, scars, and an uneven skin tone.

A micro-needling treatment involves passing a special device over your skin in a number of passes. Each time we do this, tiny needles on the device will puncture your skin to a shallow depth. Although these micro-channels are not normally visible to the naked eye, they coax your body into resurfacing the skin. In the process, skin imperfections become less noticeable, even vanishing in some cases.

Does Micro-Needling Cause Side Effects?

Properly understood, no. You will likely notice some minor redness, swelling, or bruising at the treatment site. But this is an expected, normal reaction to the process. Your body is responding to the treatment properly and initiating the healing cascade that will gradually transform your skin.

Can Micro-Needling Be Combined with Other Types of Skin Treatments?

Yes! Micro-needling actually works extremely well in combination with topical skin care ingredients. Creams, gels, ointments, and solutions sometimes have difficulty penetrating the stratum corneum or outer skin barrier. This barrier, composed of oils, dead skin cells, and cellular debris, can block larger molecules. The micro-needling procedure creates punctures or channels that allow larger molecules to pass through the stratum corneum, making them much more effective.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments you will require depends on factors like your individual goals, your current skin condition, and your overall health. Multiple treatments are often recommended because micro-needling offers results that are cumulative.

You may require several micro-needling sessions if your lines, wrinkles, or scars are very prominent. You will notice gradual improvements after each session. Although multiple sessions are normally beneficial, you will need to wait a set amount of time between treatments so that your skin has time to heal completely.
