Treating Dynamic Wrinkles with BOTOX

When most people think of what makes a person look older, they usually think of wrinkles. While it is true that wrinkles definitely make you look older, the thing that people do not realize is that not all wrinkles are created equal. When it comes to treating wrinkles, not all treatments work for every kind of wrinkle.

There are two main kinds of wrinkles. The first is static wrinkles. These appear on a person’s face as they age since their skin changes and becomes less elastic and because they lose fat in their face. When their face loses fat and their skin begins to thin, not only do they begin to have wrinkles, but the muscles in the face also become more apparent. This gives a person a sunken or hollow look. Normally, dermal fillers are used to address static wrinkles.

The second kind of wrinkles is dynamic wrinkles. These kind of wrinkles can be treated with BOTOX®. BOTOX® is injected into facial muscles that cause a person to have wrinkles when they make normal expressions. It is very likely that you have seen individuals who have a permanent wrinkle right in between their eyebrows. Their muscles stay contracted even though they are not frowning or making another facial expression. This is where BOTOX® comes in. When it is injected into the muscle in between the brow, it relaxes the muscle, which leaves the skin on top of it looking smooth.

BOTOX® can be used in different facial muscles. It is most commonly used in between the brows, at the outer corners of the eyes and at the outer corners of the mouth. One of the most common types of wrinkles that occurs in these areas is crow’s feet. You have likely noticed people who seem to be squinting like it is sunny outside even when they are indoors and the lighting is comfortable. This happens because their muscles have contracted so many times throughout their life and the wrinkles have become deep. Even if they are not purposely squinting, the muscles stay contracted.

The best candidates for BOTOX® are individuals who enjoy relatively good health. Most importantly, they do not deal with any muscular or nerve diseases. Also, they do not have any skin infections in the area that will be treated.

It is good for individuals to be realistic when it comes to when they will see results from treatment. It is not likely that you will see results as soon as you walk out of our office. It usually takes about a week for you to start seeing results and up to two or three weeks for you to see the full effects of treatment. You can expect the treatment to last about three to four months. By that time, you can simply schedule another session to maintain your results.

If you have been looking for a non-invasive way to treat the dynamic wrinkling on your face, talk to the professionals at eSSe Plastic Surgery in Fort Lauderdale about BOTOX®. Contact us today to schedule your appointment to get all the facts about what this injectable can do for you.
