What is a Mommy Makeover?

Imagine having your pre-baby body back after having children. This can be achieved with a series of procedures known as the Mommy Makeover. While time and pregnancy take their toll on the body, there is a way to improve your figure. A Mommy Makeover focuses on sagging breasts and the abdomen, but there are other considerations such as stretch marks and excess fat removal. While the exact procedure varies depending on the patient’s particular goals and needs, a typical Mommy Makeover consists of a tummy tuck, breast lift, breast augmentation and liposuction.

A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure officially known as abdominoplasty. It permanently restores firmness to the abdomen and removes any loose skin. By tightening the abdominal muscles and removing any excess fat in the area, you can once again have the stomach you used to have before pregnancy. A tummy tuck can be performed in several different ways. During your consultation, we will help you learn more about the tummy tuck procedure so you can decide how you want it to be done.

There are two types of breast enhancement. One is a breast lift and the other is breast augmentation. Breastfeeding can have a big impact on the breasts. Hormonal changes may make the breasts look fuller, but when the hormones decrease, the tissue deflates. Breast augmentation can make your breasts even bigger than they were before you had children. A breast lift may be a good choice for those whose breasts have begun to sag as a result of childbirth and breastfeeding. It lifts the breasts and may reposition the nipples to a more youthful position. Many women who undergo a Mommy Makeover choose both procedures for complete breast enhancement.

Liposuction removes fat and is often performed after the tummy tuck is completed to remove small fat pockets that have not been cut away. Liposuction involves inserting a small tube called a cannula into the area to dislodge and remove the fat.

You may have developed stretch marks during pregnancy as the skin was stretched faster than it could repair itself. You may also want to consider treatments such as chemical peels, BOTOX® and dermal fillers to improve the overall look and feel of your skin.

If you are finished having children and would like to restore the appearance of your pre-baby body, a Mommy Makeover may be for you. We recommend that you spend time eating a healthy diet and getting enough exercise so that you are in good physical condition when you have your surgery. We also recommend keeping up with your healthy lifestyle after your procedure is finished so you can maintain your results as long as possible.
