When is the Best Time to Get a Mommy Makeover?

Mommy makeover surgery is a combination of body contouring procedures that aim to reverse the effects of pregnancy.  The doctors at eSSe Plastic Surgery in Fort Lauderdale, FL oftentimes combine different types of breast enhancements with tummy tucks or other body procedures since the breasts and waistline are the areas of the body that are most susceptible to changes brought upon by pregnancy. Meticulous patient selection and correct “timing” are the keys to achieving the best results from this or any type of body contouring surgery.  Hence, below are some of the factors that determine the best time to have this done.

Fully Recovered from the Stresses of Pregnancy and Childbirth

The recovery differs from person to person, although a good rule of thumb is to wait at least six months after childbirth.  However, sometimes it’s best to wait up to one year to make sure the skin elasticity has achieved its baseline and the breast size has ceased changing. With a consultation and a physical exam, our doctor can determine the best time for you to get a mommy makeover.

You’re Done Breastfeeding

The general rule of thumb is to wait multiple months after weaning your baby.  The idea is to allow your breasts to reach their baseline before any type of breast enhancement is attempted in order to achieve the most predictable results.

You’ve Reached Your Ideal Weight

This is important before a mommy makeover or any type of body contouring surgery in order to achieve better results and in order to maintain those results. Also, you’re less likely to need a secondary or touch-up procedure if you’re near your ideal weight prior to surgery and are able to keep your weight stable for the long-term. Take note that large weight fluctuations after a tummy tuck and breast surgery may affect or even reverse the results.

You are Committed

To enjoy a safe surgery, you must avoid smoking and tobacco products, blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, and other supplements), and other factors known to affect healing well in advance of your mommy makeover surgery date. Furthermore, you must be committed to a healthy lifestyle to keep a stable weight and to preserve the results of your procedure.
