Battle of the Sexes – It’s No Contest!

Why a Female Plastic Surgeon is the Right Choice for a Woman

You came kicking and screaming out of the womb, most likely delivered into this world by a male OBGYN – it was the standard. But a revolution was happening, and it wasn’t just about educational opportunity, but pure demand.

Women wanted female doctors.

Today Esse is turning the tables on the male dominated arena of plastic surgery, offering a softer more comforting touch from the fairer sex.

Fact: 90% of plastic surgeons are men, but 90% of cosmetic surgery patients are female.

Esse is at the forefront of that revolution.

Leading the way, two renowned female plastic surgeons, Dr. Tracey Stokes and Dr. Laura Sudarsky, who’ll tell it like it is, face it – Women are just more comfortable discussing the intimacies of their bodies with other women.

“When women come to women for a cosmetic surgery consultation, they feel comfortable sharing their hopes and dreams for their surgical outcome,” said Dr. Sudarsky. “They’re not embarrassed in front of a female plastic surgeon. They aren’t afraid that we will judge them, or force our view of beauty on them.”

That is the number one complaint Sudarsky and Stokes hear from their patients.

Essentially, women come to Esse after consulting a male plastic surgeon and leave feeling that the doctor has already written a prescription for them, one that comes with a particular cup size, thigh gap and waist measurement.

“Male plastic surgeons spend the consultation trying to convince the patient what HE wants, female plastic surgeons spend the consultation listening to the patient. Why would a woman go to a male plastic surgeon who passes judgement and tries to convince a woman of what he thinks she wants, when she could go to a female plastic surgeon who will listen and deliver what the patient truly wants?”

Sudarsky has an answer.

“Often they’re intimidated by the male surgeon and afraid to say no, and they go under the knife and get a result they regret.”

Dr. Stokes concurs.

“They wake up saying, I didn’t sign up for this.”

That’s not to say that Stokes and Sudarsky coddle their patients.

“I always say we don’t want to be like a mother, although we are empathetic,” said Dr. Stokes, “inherently we are two powerful women and we want to empower our female patients to look and feel their very best.”

That is the Esse Experience.

It begins with scheduling that first consultation where you’ll find not only comfort, but your voice.

We want to empower women to speak their truth.

It’s not always easy talking about your body. Perhaps you’ve had an issue that you’ve been dealing with for years — decades even and now it’s finally time to speak it.

“In a consultation with me, women have no problem reverting to locker room or room-mate mode,” said Dr. Stokes. “They’ll ask me, ‘Have you had your breasts done?” Answer: Not yet. Or they’ll say, ‘There’s nothing’s in your face, is there?’ Answer: yes, about $8,000 worth of Botox and fillers. They’ll tell me, ‘But you look so natural,’ and my reply is you can too if you get the right products injected in the right places.”

It’s that kind of open, honest conversation you can only get as one of the girls.

We’re right there with you.

As women we understand the physical and emotional aspects — we’ve birthed the babies, gone through hormonal changes and flipped the calendar a few dozen times, we know the aging process, we have the same fears, doubts and insecurities about our own physical appearance — we get it.

“A woman will come to me and say, ‘You don’t understand what my breasts and body look like after having three kids and breastfeeding them,’ and I’ll say, I see everyday on my own body, the effects of having two kids and breastfeeding them. Suddenly the playing field is even and women are much more likely to open up about exactly what’s bothering them and point out flaws that previously would have made them self conscious – We can talk.”

Through the looking glass

We all know a true reflection of a woman isn’t necessarily what’s staring back at her in the mirror, but in a sense, it starts there. How you feel about yourself says a lot about how you’re going to get through the day.

At the end of the day we’re not selling noses, boobs and tushes, we’re selling confidence.

“I always say confidence is beauty,” said Dr. Stokes. “If we fix something small or big on a woman that bothers her, she inherently feels more confident and radiates that confidence as beauty. How do you feel after getting your hair or nails done, and multiply that by 10,000 when you get your wrinkles filled or you skin tightened or you fat melted or your breasts augmented.”

Love You

It starts by loving yourself enough to take care of yourself, speaking your truth about what’s bothering you and settling it. Once it’s done, that self love shows up as the sexiest attribute of all self-confidence.

Having that confidence, you carry yourself differently, you treat other people differently, and the way you make others feel about themselves is reflected back upon you.

Dr. Stokes sums it up like this.

“About 18 months after breast augmentation surgery, a young women sent me a photo of herself at the beach in a bikini, exemplifying her new found confidence in her improved body. Had her surgeon been an older man, so far removed from the surgery, it would be considered weird or borderline inappropriate. My point is twofold, first, the patient has access to me and my cell phone number and has no hesitation about texting me and second, she is grateful and feeling good about herself on that particular day at the beach and wants to say thank you.”

Welcome to Esse.
