Have weight fluctuations, pregnancies, and the natural aging process left you with a sagging bosom? Would you like to reshape your breasts and lift them back to their natural position on the chest? A breast lift by eSSe Plastic Surgery in Fort Lauderdale, FL, can improve your silhouette, giving you a perky, youthful bosom. Best of all, the results will be long-lasting.
How Long Does a Breast Lift Last?
This type of lift involves the repositioning of breast tissue, which results in a near-permanent improvement in the shape and position of the breasts. Although your body will continue to age and evolve, patients who undergo this treatment enjoy firmer, more shapely breasts for years to come. The long-lasting improvement is one of the reasons this treatment is so popular.
What Can I Do To Maintain My Results?
Although this treatment offers long-term results, there are still steps you can take to help fight off aging and keep your bosom perky in the years to come. Sticking to a healthy lifestyle and maintaining a healthy and stable weight are both good steps to take. So is wearing supportive undergarments, particularly while exercising. Working out with weights, and doing exercises that strengthen the chest muscles, is another smart step.
What Is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift, which in medical terms is referred to as mastopexy, is an outpatient treatment that is performed in our surgical suites using general anesthesia. This treatment repositions existing breast tissue to give the patient breasts that are firmer, perkier, and more shapely. If the breasts have begun to sag, this treatment can also lift them back to their proper position.
Sagging breasts can age your silhouette, and this treatment restores a natural, youthful contour to your body. A lift may also be performed as a way of rectifying breasts that don’t match, or as a way of reconstructing the bosom after a mastectomy.
How Does This Differ From Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation usually involves the use of an implant to increase the size of the bosom. Mastopexy repositions existing tissue to improve the shape and position of the breasts, but it doesn’t increase the patient’s cup size. Because a lift does not add volume to the breast, the results patients get are very natural. And in some cases, the breasts appear slightly larger, simply because they’ve been reshaped.
Some of our patients opt to combine breast augmentation with mastopexy, which both increases breast size while also lifting the bosom.
What Happens During Treatment?
When performing a lift, we remove any excess skin that is contributing to sagging and reshape existing breast tissue. To do this, we usually make an incision around the nipple and then directly down the lower portion of the breast. For some patients, we’ll also make an incision along the inframammary fold beneath the breast. If the areola has stretched or has shifted, we can also reposition it on the breast. The treatment usually takes about three hours.
What Is Recovery Like?
You’ll be able to head home to rest a few hours after treatment is complete. Most patients are back to work in about seven days and can completely resume their routine within a few weeks. Your breasts may be tender for a few weeks after treatment, but you won’t experience any discomfort.
You’ll also be asked to wear a surgical bra for a few weeks as your body heals, and sexual activity should be avoided for a week or two.
How Quickly Will I See Improvement?
You’ll notice an improvement in your bosom almost immediately, and your results will improve over the next few months as the breast shape and position settles.
Am I a Good Candidate?
You Have Fully Developed Breasts
Lifts are not performed until the patient’s breasts are fully developed.
You’re Frustrated by Sagging Breasts
If you’re wondering if the sagging you’re experiencing is enough to consider a lift, there are a couple of easy at-home tests you can try. If a pencil placed beneath your breast remains in place without being held, your bosom may be sagging enough to merit treatment. If your nipple rests below the crease under the breasts, that’s another sign that you may have enough sagging.
You Can Maintain a Stable Weight
Because fluctuations in a patient’s weight can influence the breasts, this treatment is recommended for those who are at a stable weight. If you’re planning future pregnancies, it might be wise to schedule this after you’re done having children.
You’re Healthy
The ideal patient is in good general health and does not have a history of breast cancer, uncontrolled diabetes, or other serious medical conditions. This treatment is not recommended for individuals who have Cellulitis, an infection of the breast tissue.
You Want a Customized Treatment
Breast lifts are not a one-size-fits-all treatment. For each patient, we design a treatment plan that is tailored to that individual’s anatomy and cosmetic goals. The current size and shape of your breasts, the amount of elasticity your skin has, the amount of excess skin on the chest, and the degree of sagging you’re experiencing are all factors we’ll take into consideration when developing your treatment plan.
Our goal is always to address each patient’s concerns and offer them the best possible results.
What Advantages Does This Treatment Offer?
A Curvy, More Youthful Figure
This treatment can help sagging, flat breasts reclaim their natural shape. Your breasts will be curvy and more shapely after treatment. They’ll also be back to a more natural, raised position on the chest. In addition to the aesthetic benefits for your bosom, this treatment can restore the overall contours of your body and give you a more youthful, healthy, sexy figure.
Less Irritation
If you experience chafing beneath the breasts, this treatment can help. By eliminating sagging, excess skin on the chest, mastopexy can clear up that type of irritation.
Comfortable Exercise
Sagging breasts can make rigorous exercise uncomfortable. Mastopexy eliminates sagging and restores a more natural shape to the bosom, making supportive undergarments more effective and helping patients feel more physically comfortable when exercising.
More Self Confidence
This treatment helps patients feel great about their bodies again. You’ll have more self-confidence, even when you’re wearing a bathing suit or a tank top. You’ll look forward to getting dressed in the morning.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Other Types of Breast Surgeries Do You Offer?
Our practice offers a full lineup of breast treatments, including breast augmentation, breast reduction, and surgery to correct asymmetrical breasts. We can also perform surgery to revise previous augmentations if the patient’s cosmetic goals have shifted.
How Can I Tell if a Lift or Augmentation Is Best for Me?
Many patients are unhappy with the look of their breasts, but they’re not sure whether augmentation or a lift is needed. Fortunately, you don’t need to make this decision on your own. If you’re unhappy with your breasts, the best thing to do is schedule a consultation with our practice. We’ll use this time to evaluate your bosom and talk with you about what you’re hoping to achieve. We can recommend the best treatment plan for you.
Are Both Breasts Addressed at the Same Time?
Yes. We’ll address both breasts during the same treatment.
Will My Breasts Look Natural After a Lift?
Your results after this treatment will appear completely natural. This treatment relies exclusively on your body’s tissue, which will be reshaped with an eye toward natural results. If you have concerns about what your results will be like, be sure to share them during your initial consultation so that we can address them.
What’s the Best Age To Schedule a Breast Lift?
If you’re an adult female with fully developed breasts and you have concerns about their appearance, we can talk with you about whether you’re a suitable candidate. There is no perfect age for this treatment. Women who are over the age of 50 may be slightly less likely to be considered as candidates because of a variety of factors. However, older women routinely undergo this treatment if they are healthy.
Will This Treatment Interfere With Breastfeeding?
This treatment won’t prevent you from breastfeeding in the future, but we usually recommend that patients wait until they’re done having children to schedule mastopexy.
Will My Health Insurance Cover This?
Health insurance plans don’t usually cover mastopexy if it’s performed for cosmetic purposes. But our practice offers health care lending through Prosper and health care financing through Carecredit.
